Every startup founder dreams of pitching their business on Shark Tank India-one of the most popular platforms to raise funding, gain visibility, and connect with some of India’s top investors. But how do you actually get there? What steps should you take to appear on the show and impress the sharks?
Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide written in easy language.
Step 1: Build a Real Business First
Before applying, make sure you have a real, working business. This could be a product, service, or app. It doesn’t have to be perfect or very big-but it should be up and running. Even if it’s just early revenue or prototype stage, your idea should be clear and unique.
You need to show:
- That people are interested in what you’re offering
- That you’ve taken real action (not just an idea)
- That you’re solving a real problem
Step 2: Apply Online on the Official Website
The team behind Shark Tank India opens online registrations for each season. You need to:
- Visit the official SonyLIV app or website
- Fill in the application form with details about your startup
- Answer business questions honestly (revenue, team, problem you’re solving)
- Upload a short intro video (pitching your idea)
Make sure your pitch is simple, full of energy, and shows your passion.
Step 3: Shortlisting by the Team
If your form and video impress the team, they’ll call you for the next round. This could be a telephonic or Zoom interview, where they ask deeper questions:
- Why did you start this?
- How do you make money?
- What’s your business model?
- Who are your competitors?
They want to check how well you understand your business and market.
Step 4: Audition and Documentation
If you clear the interviews, you’ll be invited to give a live pitch audition (either in Mumbai or virtually). Here, you’ll present your idea like you would on TV-but to the show’s internal team.
You’ll also be asked to submit:
- Company registration documents (if available)
- Financial details (revenue, cost, profits)
- KYC documents of the founders
This step checks the authenticity of your startup and your preparedness.
Step 5: Final Selection & Shooting
If your audition is successful, you’ll receive the final selection email. This means you’ll actually get to pitch your business in front of the sharks!
The production team will prepare you for:
- The stage setup
- Technical rehearsals
- Styling and background story
You’ll also be assigned a mentor from the show to help fine-tune your pitch.
Step 6: Appear on TV and Pitch to Sharks
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. You’ll walk into the Shark Tank stage, face the cameras and lights, and pitch your startup in front of 5–6 sharks.
